Do You Have A Storage Controller – You Should – IT IS A Necessity!

 Do you have a personal computer? Is it a desk top or a laptop? Whatever it is –your purpose is not only going on-line; in other words not only for surfing. You have other purposes, you perform work while in front of your PC and whatever you accomplish using the computer, needs to be saved and stored. What about the programs you are using, where are they? So – are you familiar with storage controllers?

One important computer device is the storage controller. It is one major PC component that equips you with the capability to store your programs and your data in your respective computer. Where is it found? Well – you can locate your storage controller in the motherboard. It is integral to the chipset core logic.

So storage controllers are means – means for you to be able to store in your PC your programs and your data. They are very important parts of your PC. There are two kinds – the permanent and the temporary. It is referred to as permanent when the data is permanently stored in the system’s memory. On the other hand, it is termed temporary because it stores the data only when your computer is on.

You have different kinds of storage controllers present in your PC – each has its own function to do.

  1. SCSI controllers for SCSI hard disks and CD-ROM drives
  2. Univeral Serial Bus Controllers for USB devices
  3. Floppy disk controllers for floppy disk drives (This may be obsolete by now. We no longer use floppy disks.)

Characteristics of the storage controllers

  1. Capacity – This characteristic tells you the amount of data you can store in your system. The storage capacity of your PC may be 1GB or 2GB, depending on the use. The higher the capacity, the faster your PC works. The 2GB memory is sufficient to have a faster internet connection both at home and in your office.
  2. Performance – This gives you an idea on the influence of your storage device on the over-all and total performance of your system.  You can gauge the ability of your PC, especially the hard drive.
  3. Flexibility – This characteristic enables you to support other forms of software, DVD movies and CD audio. This is very important characteristics – what with so many copies of movies in DVD form! And your PC can be used in place of components – CD audios are plentiful.

It is important to note that storage devices are mechanical in nature. As such, it tends to be more sluggish than the electronic counterparts such as the CPU  (Central Processing Unit). But this is remedied because of the continuous re-modeling – the desired efficiency is attained.

It is recommended that your PC should always be equipped with matching storage devices and storage controllers. The storage controllers contribute to the effectiveness of your USB, CD-ROM and hard disk. It is imperative that with the innovations, your PC (since you are a computer enthusiast) must have all the devices for an optimum performance. Good quality of storage controllers are ready in the market at very affordable prices.
